SAN FRANCISCO – The Golden State Warriors are going to have a drastically different season than the past few years.
On the court the team is completely different. Gone are the Durants, the Iguodalas, the Livingstons. Hurt are the Thompsons, Looneys, the Currys. Draymond Green is the only mainstay from the dynasty that looks to play a significant amount of the season.
Off the court, things might be even more different. The franchise moved across the bay to the Chase Center in San Francisco, and many players and coaches moved with. Steve Kerr, Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry, and Draymond Green have all moved from the East Bay over to San Francisco proper or the peninsula.
Green told reporters before Friday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs that he had moved into his house in the city just in time to go trick-or-treating with his fiancée and two small children. And for the first time, he experienced what type of candy they hand out in the city.
“It had to be some of the best trick-or-treating I’ve ever seen. Like, the homes, the decorations was absurd. Everybody participated. And it was like full candy stores over there. Big bars of Snickers. And I’m not talking about the little joint like this. They got like actual bars of Snickers.”
Green said he’s not settled enough to have time to figure out an out-of-the-box costume, so he went as a Warriors player in a Warriors jumpsuit. The outfit came with some fanfare.
“It was ummm… crazy. To say the least,” Green said. “Lot of picture taking. Some autographs. Lot of chatter back and forth with kids and parents. Little overwhelming. But it was really fun. It was a lot though.”
The All-Star forward said next year when he’s been at his spot for a year he’ll lean into the holiday a little more than he did this year. He does still plan on wearing something that shows off his face… for the perks.
“I’m definitely not wearing a mask because when they saw me they offered me more candy and I want the extra candy,” Green said. “But I will wear a costume. And maybe I’ll half paint my face so they can still tell it’s me and I can get extra candy.”
