It’s only Monday, but the 49ers are already pulling out the big guns to get fans hyped for their Divisional matchup vs. the Minnesota Vikings at Levi’s Stadium on Saturday.
The team posted a video narrated by three-time Super Bowl Champion Jerry Rice on social media, detailing the team’s improbable regular season run that saw them clinch the No. 1 seed in the NFC Playoffs. Rice faced off against the Vikings in three consecutive postseasons from 1987-89, dispatching them in ’88 and ’89 en route to Super Bowl championships, and was named as the game’s MVP in the former.
Here’s Rice’s full monologue from the above video:
“Well here it is, another season, but not just any season, oh no. This one had us on the edge of our seats. Through it all this team pushed and punched. They moved mountains and the opposition to get to the postseason.
“They stayed together. Offense, defense, they were all swinging for the fences. Along the way, the haters hated, the doubters doubted. It’s okay if people were against us, we get that all the time. It’s okay if they don’t believe, it don’t matter to this team. You know why? Because they were hungry, and so are you.
“Through the noise and the doubt you never wavered, because you were faithful then and faithful now. Faithful to this franchise, these players and faithful to the Bay.
“And it doesn’t matter if you’re from here or there. Come one, come all. We’ve got faith in bunches.
“But it’s not going to be easy. See, we’ve been down this road before and it’s rough. But this year the road is just a little different. This year it’s the road less traveled, because figuratively and literally we aren’t going anywhere.
“The road to the playoffs goes right through the Bay, right through Levi’s Stadium, right through the tunnel, and right through the other team’s quarterback. We’re here and we’re ready. We’re going to rock the stands, flex our muscles, hit up the Niner gang and sound the horn on whoever is coming this way.
“It’s the playoffs, it’s time to be legendary. We’re leaving caution, haters in our suitcases behind, because it’s the road less traveled. See you at our house.”
