It might be the first week of March, but the Giants-Dodgers rivalry is alive and well.
Wednesday night served as a reminder of that continual truth, when a spring training game between the two teams got testy, leading to both dugouts being warned and an unexpected confrontation between nice guys Clayton Kershaw and Ron Wotus.
It all stated when Johnny Cueto hit Max Muncy on the hand, and Kershaw followed by plunking Rob Brantly’s upper body. That led to both benches being warned, something Cueto made clear he thought was ridiculous during his postgame session. Shortly after, Kershaw ended the inning by striking out Yolmer Sanchez on a monster curveball.
As Kershaw made his way to the dugout, he crossed paths with Giants third base coach Ron Wotus, who appeared to say something to the big lefty. That caused Kershaw to snap, turning and yelling in Wotus’ direction before an umpire stepped in.
I guess the Giants 3B coach wasn’t happy that Kershaw hit Rob Brantly with a pitch? I’m fairly certain that Kersh wasn’t trying to retaliate… in a spring training game pic.twitter.com/LilOgBBLjk

The Giants will face the Dodgers and Kershaw on Opening Day in Los Angeles on March 26.
