A decade after producing homegrown talent that led the club to three World Series titles, the Giants farm system is on its way back after one of the worst stretches in recent memory.
Twenty of the 30 prospects on MLB’s list that dropped Thursday afternoon were acquired over the past two seasons, since Farhan Zaidi took over the baseball operations side with the mission of retooling the franchise from the ground up.
The Giants’ top five prospects — Joey Bart, C (MLB No. 14), Marco Luciano, SS (MLB No. 35), Heliot Ramos, OF (MLB No. 65), Hunter Bishop, OF (MLB No. 71), Seth Corry, LHP (MLB No. 99) — are all featured on the MLB’s Top 100 list for the first time in years. The Giants are hoping that at least one of these players will break their drought of a homegrown player making the All-Star Game, which hasn’t happened since Joe Panik in 2011.
Outfielder Luis Matos, 18, made the biggest jump of any player on the list, ranked as the Giants’ eighth best prospect after posting a 1.000 OPS in rookie ball last season. Here’s the full 30 via MLB:
