The chances that Barry Bonds makes Major League Baseball’s Hall of Fame appear more and more unlikely with each passing year. There was a time when it seemed Bonds, despite his alleged steroid use and conviction of obstruction of justice in 2011, might have a chance at making it to the Hall.

Those days appear to have passed him by, as he received just 60.7 percent of the required 75 percent of votes to make the Hall of Fame this year, with only two more voting years left on the ballot.

In an interview with The Athletic’s Andrew Baggarly, Bonds expressed frustration at the situation:

“I feel like a ghost. A ghost in a big empty house, just rattling around…

A death sentence. That’s what they’ve given me…

My heart, it’s broken. Really broken…

If they don’t want me, just say you don’t want me and be done with it. Just be done with it.”

Bonds had his number retired by the Giants on August 11, 2018. He is MLB’s all-time home run leader with 762, and won seven MVPs, the most in league history.
