Sure, Alex Dickerson is on the “MLB The Show” bandwagon with so many of the Giants, his manager and hitting coach included.
But he’s not happy about it.
The Giants left fielder, always a big video game fan, has stayed away from the PlayStation game in the past, fearful of mixing work with pleasure.
“The one thing I’ve always avoided is ‘MLB The Show’ because the game has gotten too realistic,” Dickerson said on KNBR’s “Murph & Mac” on Wednesday. “If I played in-season and I’m struggling to pick up a curveball down or something, I go right home and just relive the experience and not pick it up there, either.”
As the game has swept through the team, co-hitting coach Justin Viele using it to study opposing pitchers, Gabe Kapler using it to study opposing teams, Dickerson has picked it back up “because I miss baseball so much.”
If and when this season starts, it’ll be put back away, though.
“It’s crazy. I wish it was advanced as it is now when I was a kid,” Dickerson said. “You can do that whole Road-to-The-Show experience, see it from our point of view. The stadiums all look exactly the same. It is crazy how far they’ve come.”
