Offensive line is a bit of an enigmatic position to the average football fan. Because the position is so collaborative, it can be hard to tell by watching tape what separates one player from another, and how to define an individual’s playing style.

That’s not a problem for new 49ers rookie offensive tackle Colton McKivitz who the 49ers selected in the fifth round out of West Virginia last Saturday. McKivitz offered no platitudes when asked to give a self-evaluation of his style-of-play.

“Personally, (I think) I’m a prick,” McKivitz responded. “I like to get inside guys’ heads. I think that’s one of the biggest things. If I can get him to think about me rather than (the offense), then I know I’m winning. That’s the one things I really enjoy about it.”

“I’ve gotten into a few scuffles before. I usually take a few on the chin, but that’s alright. I get it during the whistle, so it works itself out.”

McKivitz went on to say he’s not typically a trash-talker, but that he’ll partake if someone else starts it. Still, he believes he is a different person off the field.

“I refer to myself as a civilized redneck, so I’ll be alright.”

With Joe Staley now gone, the 49ers might have just found another entertaining character in their o-line room.
