With MLB baseball still on hiatus due to the coronavirus, Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow have been relegated to calling video game simulations. Yeah, it’s a tough time. But with the Korean Baseball Organization resuming play on Monday, would Kuip be open to calling one of those games? Sure it’s not the San Francisco Giants, but it is live baseball after all.
“It would take somebody else to do play-by-play because I do not have a gift when it comes to pronunciations,” Kuip told Murph and Mac. “If you look at my scorecard, I have to phonetically spell everything out. I remember when Andres Galarraga came into the league, even after I phonetically put it out there to read, GA-LA-RA-GA, I still struggled with it. Mike and I are doing a simulated game today and it’s the Giants against the White Sox, which is on the schedule, and the White Sox have a number of Latin players, where you really have to get the pronunciations right.
“So any way, that’s a long winded answer to ‘would I like to do play-by-play for one of these Korean games?’ The answer is: absolutely not.”
Bummer. Listen to the full interview below.
