The Giants odds of going 1-0 to start the season just skyrocketed.

Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw will not get the start after all, the future Hall of Fame lefty a late scratch due to a back issue sustained while lifting weights. The injury will send Kershaw to the Injured List. Right-hander Dustin May has been recalled and will start in Kershaw’s place.

The switch from a lefty to a righty will likely have a significant impact on the Giants’ platoon heavy lineup, which should be announced shortly. In 49 career games vs. the Giants, Kershaw has posted 1.74 ERA while allowing a batting average of .200.

May, 22, a former third-round pick, has just four career starts and 14 major league appearances. He’s posted a 3.63 ERA and an impressive 1.09 WHIP in those games.

Right-hander Johnny Cueto will get the start for the Giants.
