It seems like for every wide receiver the 49ers add, they lose another to injury. Even the reinforcements aren’t safe.
With Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Richie James, and Jalen Hurd all already on the shelf, the 49ers are adding new acquisition J.J. Nelson to that list, Kyle Shanahan said on KNBR Friday morning. He’s expected to be out a month.
“J.J. Nelson has come in and done a real good job,” Shanahan said on the Murph & Mac. “He’s been banged up the last two days. We just got some injury stuff on him yesterday, so he’s probably going to be out here for the next month, so you lose another (receiver).”
A former fifth-round pick, Nelson, 28, played sparingly with the Raiders last season, catching just four passes for 36 yards and a touchdown. Nelson spent the four seasons prior with the Cardinals as a depth receiver. Nelson has caught 85 passes for 1475 yards in his five year career.
With Nelson also on the shelf, the team signed River Cracraft and Kevin White on Thursday.
