Tim Flannery has been hospitalized for more than a week as he fights a staph infection but believes he’s on the upswing.

The beloved former Giants third-base coach is improving after checking himself in to a San Diego hospital Oct. 18, his family said in a statement Tuesday released through the club.

“He is responding well to antibiotics and even requested his guitar be brought to him,” said the family, who has been updating his health on his music page on Facebook.

Flannery coached with the Giants from 2007-14, winning three World Series titles with good pal Bruce Bochy in the span before retiring and focusing on broadcasting and his music career. The staff infection followed emergency surgery, KNBR’s Greg Papa reported on air. The family said Monday they were waiting on a few scans to be returned.

“Thank you all so much for your love and support and prayers,” the family, which will continue to update his health through the “Tim Flannery and Lunatic Fringe” page, wrote Saturday.
