The NFL is done giving slaps on the wrist for breaking COVID-19 protocols.
The league brought the hammer down on the Las Vegas Raiders Thursday night, fining the team $500,000, coach Jon Gruden $150,000, and also taking a 2021 sixth-round draft pick from the team for repeated COVID-19 protocol violations late in October, according to ESPN.
The league called the Raiders’ violations “brazen and repeated.” Among the violations since the season started:
- Gruden has not consistently worn a mask.
- Players attended a large indoor gathering at a public charity event in late September.
- Team allowed an unauthorized person into its locker room after a Monday night win against New Orleans.
Gruden was fined $100,000 and the Raiders $250,000 for the head coach not wearing his mask consistently during the Week 2 game vs. the Saints.
The other violations referred to a public charity event last month where 10 players, including Darren Waller and Derek Carr, did not wear masks.
