We’re 13 days from pitchers and catchers reporting to Scottsdale for spring training and you can add another name to that list.
The Giants have reportedly agreed to a minor-league deal with James Sherfy, 25, a right-handed reliever who has spent his entire career in the Diamondbacks organization since being selected in the 10th round in 2013.

Sherfy has limited experience at the major league level, tossing just 45 and a third total innings from 2017-19. He looked good in those innings, his 2.98 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 9.5 strikeouts per nine innings likely piquing the Giants’ interest. Sherfy throws four pitches (fastball, changeup, curveball, slider) throwing the curve over 35 percent of the time.
Sherfy did not pitch in the shortened 2020 season and was released by Arizona on August 18 as he dealt with an elbow injury. He will compete with right-handed relief options Tyler Rogers, Trevor Gott, Shaun Anderson, Reyes Moronta and John Brebbia for a spot on the opening day roster.
