Yep, Buster Posey’s back.
The Giants’ No. 7 hitter — the first time he entered a lineup in that order number since 2010 — needed just three pitches to announce to the baseball world that he indeed has returned. He jumped on a hanging, 2-0 cutter from Marco Gonzales and crushed it to left for a second-inning home run in the season opener in Seattle on Thursday.
It would have been the Giants’ first hit, run and homer, except Evan Longoria took Gonzales deep two batters earlier. The Giants entered the third up 2-0.
Posey, who opted out of the 2020 season to care for newborn twins during the pandemic, is looking for a rebound season after his play had steadily declined following 2018 hip surgery. His hip sure looked healthy in his first swing of the season.
It was his first homer since Sept. 24, 2019. Brandon Belt and Brandon Crawford bounced back in their first seasons with the new hitting minds, and Posey is off to a quick start.
