Alex Dickerson latest Giant to hit IL as Mike Yastrzemski returns

One important lefty-swinging outfielder for the Giants is taking the roster spot of another.

The Giants activated Mike Yastrzemski, who will be available off the bench for Friday’s Oracle Park opener with the Padres, but moved Alex Dickerson to the 10-day injured list.

Dickerson hurt himself while making a nice diving catch in San Diego and has a bone bruise in his right shoulder, Gabe Kapler said. The manager does not expect a lengthy IL stint for Dickerson, who could be back once the 10 days are up.

“It was affecting his swing,” Kapler said of Dickerson, who had just four plate appearances in Colorado. “Just thought it was best to give him a little bit of a blow.”

Yastrzemski, who was activated the first game he could, was out of the lineup against lefty Blake Snell, as was Brandon Crawford.

With Dickerson, Tommy La Stella and Donovan Solano out, the Giants are missing a lot of firepower.

It was another busy day of roster moves. Jarlin Garcia also was activated after a left groin strain had kept the lefty out since April 20. He took the roster spot that Joey Bart had vacated following his send-down Wednesday.

Kapler did not yet have an answer about what happens to a rotation that Johnny Cueto will rejoin Sunday.

“We’re still having a few final discussions,” the manager said, with Cueto’s addition meaning there are six starters.

The presumption is Logan Webb will be shuffled back to the bullpen, as he was temporarily before Cueto strained his lat. Kapler said Webb is not available out of the bullpen Friday, and neither is any starter.

Reyes Moronta has a mild sprained ligament, Kapler said, after the righty experienced forearm tightness. They expect him to be out an additional couple weeks.

The Giants’ lineup:

1. Austin Slater, CF
2. Wilmer Flores, 2B
3. Buster Posey, C
4. Darin Ruf, LF
5. Evan Longoria, 3B
6. Brandon Belt, 1B
7. Mauricio Dubón, SS
8. Mike Tauchman, RF
9. Anthony DeSclafani, RHP
