Trevor Bauer might be public enemy No. 1 for Giants fans right now, but there was a time not that long ago where he was alongside those same fans, idolizing Tim Lincecum.

Bauer revealed that Lincecum is the pitcher he modeled both his game and pitching mindset after, a few years ago in a conversation with MiLB.com. He did not reveal the conversation he had with Lincecum the first time they met until recently, however, and it’s a doozy.

“The first time I met Tim Lincecum, he’s laying on a training table,” Bauer said on “GOATS: On The Bump” podcast. “I’ve imagined this in my head, this meeting of Tim Lincecum, for years and years. It’s like, you look up to the guy, right? He’s laying on a training table getting work done. I walk in and Sam, the guy working on him, goes, ‘Oh hey, Trevor, this is Tim. Tim, this is Trevor,’ makes the introduction. And Tim, the first thing out of his mouth, he’s like, ‘Hey, who’s got the biggest piece in the big leagues?’

“And like, I did not in a million years think that this was gonna be the way my first interaction with Tim Lincecum went, but here we are.”

For those of us who have gotten to know Timmy over the years, the story isn’t a surprise. Lincecum always marched to the beat of his own drummer, and messing with a young player during their first meeting sounds exactly like something he’d do.
