The 49ers could have another international prospect in the mix. Earlier this offseason, the team was assigned offensive tackle Alfredo Gutierrez from Mexico, as part of the NFL’s International Player Pathway. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, they’ll work out the Canadian Football League’s Jevon Cottoy next week.

Cottoy has already had four prior workouts and at a listed 6’5″, 230 pounds, could play either as a wide receiver or a tight end. Based on how he moves in his highlight tape above, tight end seems like a likelier fit.
He, like the rest of the CFL players, had to sit out for a season, as COVID-19 caused the CFL to cancel the season. In the year prior, Cottoy, 24, then 22, caught 38 passes for 386 yards and a touchdown.
San Francisco signed a stellar run blocking tight end in MyCole Pruitt on Wednesday, so it’s possible this is another look at developing depth in a tight end room which is not exactly deep behind George Kittle. Ross Dwelley, Charlie Woerner and Jordan Reed all ranked as some of the NFL’s worst blockers last season, per Pro Football Focus.
