Ahh, prospect rankings. Over the last few years, this time of the season was prime for peering down into the Giants’ system and looking at how their top prospects were panning out. And it’s still a good time to do that, but there’s a little less desperation and “when are they calling up Bart?” questions when Buster Posey is hitting .326 and the Giants are the best team in baseball.

But those prospects are still there, so when (if) the time comes and the wheels do come off for the Giants’ aging players over the next few years, there’s a youthful future to look forward to.

According to Baseball America’s latest top 100 rankings, the Giants’ farm system is improving. Five players make the top 100 and all of them improved their spot. The Giants five prospects in the top 100 is tied for third most.

The first is the 19-year-old infielder Marco Luciano, who is in the upper echelon, moving up from 10th to seventh overall.

Then there’s Bart, up to 27 from 29th, outfielder Heliot Ramos, who’s up to 68 from 70th. Luciano’s fellow 19-year-old Luis Matos rose to 82 from 84th and lastly there’s pitcher Kyle Harrison, up to 88th from 90th.

Top prospect Ramos is passing the eye test too. He launched his 10th home run at Single-A San Jose, the most of any player on that team, on Sunday night. It left the bat at 115 mph. That’s harder than any ball hit by the big league club this year.
