Giants’ Mike Yastrzemski leaves game after fouling ball off his leg

It has been a season of concerns, and there is a third for Mike Yastrzemski.

The Giants right fielder, who already has missed time in two separate injured list stints this season, looked to be in clear pain after fouling a ball hard off his right shin in the seventh inning at Dodger Stadium on Monday.

The Giants were down 3-2 and had a runner on first when Yastrzemski tried to do damage against Victor Gonzalez. Instead, the damage was inflicted upon himself, and he hobbled around before a trainer came out to check on him. He stayed in for the at-bat — which was a strikeout — and was taken out in the bottom of the inning. Mike Tauchman replaced the 2020 MVP candidate and 2021 NL All-Star finalist.

Yastrzemski was lost in April with a left oblique strain and earlier this month because of a right thumb sprain. The Giants always have been able to find someone else to step up, but they need Yastrzemski.
