The Warriors seem to be very open to trading one or two of their lottery picks on Thursday, but only if the price is right.
That wasn’t the case when the Knicks reportedly made a play for Golden State’s No. 14 pick according to Bleacher Report. The Knicks offered up picks No. 19 and 21 for No. 14, a swap the Warriors had no interest in as there isn’t currently an incentive for them to move back in the draft.
The trade was likely a shot in the dark for the Knicks, considering all indications are the Warriors would like to do just about anything else with the picks aside from move back. The best case scenario is some sort of package of the picks and a player, possibly Andrew Wiggins, for another star. Wizards guard Bradley Beal is apparently at the top of their wishlist when it comes to players they could realistically land in a deal such as that.
If the Warriors can’t land a big fish, it seems likely that they will make both selections, and target a player at No. 7 who can help them win now. Bob Myers pushed back a bit on this narrative yesterday, however, stating that in his mind, the Warriors championship window will be open for a while, meaning he’s more concerned in drafting a player who will at some point be good, rather than a less talented player who can play immediately.
