Max Scherzer to the Padres doesn’t seem all that bad now does it.
A few hours ago, it looked like that’s where the three-time Cy Young Award winner was headed, when Ken Rosenthal reported that the two sides were working on a deal. What hadn’t been worked out was whether or not Scherzer would waive his no-trade clause, and what the Nationals would get in return.
Apparently those two factors have not been ironed out, and now the Dodgers are swooping in for what would be a blockbuster to end all blockbusters. According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, Los Angeles is making progress on a trade for both Scherzer and Nationals shortstop Trea Turner, in a deal that would certainly cost a ton of prospects.

Scherzer, 37, is set to hit free agency next season while Turner, 28, is about to enter the final season of arbitration. Both players are in the midst of All-Star seasons and are just two seasons removed from a World Series championship with the Nationals.
The only good news for the Giants if this deal gets done? San Francisco only has three games remaining vs. the Dodgers after beating them on Thursday. They have 10 more vs. the Padres.
UPDATE: The trade is happening. According to Passan, the Dodgers will acquire Scherzer and Turner from the Nationals.
