It was a pretty satisfying trade deadline for San Francisco Giants fans.
Not only did Farhan Zaidi, Scott Harris and Co. land a star in former MVP Kris Bryant, but did so without paying a premium, sending over just the No. 9 and No. 30 prospects in their system. The move bore fruit immediately, Bryant went yard in his second Giants at-bat.

Yet it remains to be seen if the Giants addressed their most pressing need, even when you take into account that they also beefed up the bullpen by re-acquiring Tony Watson. The starting rotation remains short on depth, and it seems like the Giants could be in trouble if the injury bug were to knock out just one of their starting pitchers.
General Manager Scott Harris isn’t concerned, and explained why on Monday morning when he joined Murph & Mac.
“I think yesterday showed you why we didn’t go out and grab a starter,” Harris said on KNBR. “If we were to add a starter most people would have expected that (Logan Webb) might have been the odd man out. He’s throwing the ball as well as anyone in our rotation right now. We think he’s one of our best starters, I think the fans saw it yesterday.
“We just have high expectations for Webby. It just feels like he’s taking that step in his development right now. We wanted to show our confidence in him and the rest of the rotation that this is a group that has performed well all year and we believe in this group. I think that’s one of the reasons why we didn’t go out and get a starter.”
Well there you have it, the Giants like their current rotation, and it’s hard to argue that Webb isn’t one of the best fifth starters in baseball right now. Apparently with Aaron Sanchez off the disabled list and Sammy Long in their back pocket, the Giants think they have enough depth should one of Johnny Cueto, Kevin Gausman, Anthony DeSclafani, Alex Wood or Webb go down.
