Trevor Bauer’s absence from the Dodgers will continue.
The Los Angeles right-hander had his administrative leave extended by MLB for the fifth time, this latest extension lasting through Aug. 20, according to ESPN. MLB can continue extending the leave as long as they have sign off from the MLB Player’s Association.
Bauer is scheduled to appear in a civil hearing for the temporary restraining order against him on Aug. 16-19 in Los Angeles. Bauer’s legal team has reportedly advised him not to testify but the petitioner’s side stated that he must nonetheless take the stand, even if he invokes his Fifth Amendment right not to answer questions, according to ESPN.
Bauer hasn’t been with the Dodgers since July 2. Days before that, restraining order that was filed in L.A. County Superior Court on June 28 against Bauer, by a woman claiming he sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions, including choking her until she lost consciousness, punching her and leaving her with injuries that required hospitalization. Bauer has denied the claims and stated that their sexual encounters were consensual.
Bauer, 30, won the NL Cy Young Award last year and signed a record-setting three-year, $102 million contract this offseason.
