A scary moment took place during the second inning of Tuesday’s White Sox-A’s game in Chicago.
A’s starting pitcher Chris Bassitt took a 100.1 mph line drive from Brian Goodwin off the face, collapsing to the ground as his teammates vociferously gestured for the trainers. Bassitt stayed down for a while, clutching his head as blood poured out. His A’s teammates were visibly shaken.

Bassitt eventually sat up and was taken off the field by the medical cart, and driven to a local hospital. The A’s later provided a positive update that Bassitt is conscious and aware, but that he sustained a right cheek fracture that will require surgery.
