Giants starter Anthony DeSclafani exited Wednesday afternoon’s game against the Mets in the second inning with right ankle discomfort, the Giants announced.
He left the field after walking Mets infielder Jonathan Villar on five pitches. A batter before, he covered first base on a dribbler between first and second and appeared to step on the bag awkwardly.
DeSclafani’s final line of the day is 1.1 innings pitched, one hit, one hit batter, one strikeout and no earned runs. José Álvarez came in for him in relief and got the Giants out of the second inning unscathed. Before the Giants took their licks in the bottom of the second inning, the score remained knotted at 1-1.
On the year, DeSclafani’s been one of SF’s most consistent rotation arms. The 31-year-old veteran is 11-5 with a 3.29 ERA in 23 starts entering Wednesday. He’s recorded a career-best 1.081 WHIP and has also tossed two shutouts in 2021.
