Andrew Wiggins says that Wednesday wasn’t a revenge game. Wolves head coach Chris Finch disagrees.
“This is the second time that I’ve been with the team, playing the Warriors, and both times he had big nights,” Finch said, via The Athletic. “He obviously has a personal vendetta.”
It’s easy to see why Finch might think that. Wiggins was a force vs. the Wolves at Chase Center, dropping 35 points on 14-of-19 shooting and two absolutely cruel dunks over former teammate Karl Anthony-Towns. Wiggins also dropped 27 on the Wolves last season.
Wiggins spent the first six seasons of his career with the Wolves after being drafted first overall in 2014. Wiggins’ time in Minnesota was a mixed bag, at times flashing his immense natural talent, but never playing at an All-Star level consistently. Wiggins was a frequent target of criticism from the fans when the team struggled.
Anthony-Towns agrees with Finches assessment that Wiggins turns it on against his former teams.
“He always does that,” Towns said. “Any team … Cavaliers traded him, Wolves traded him … you expect him to come out and play well.”
While Wiggins wouldn’t cop to it being a revenge game, he couldn’t help but admit that he enjoyed it, especially the dunks.
“I liked them both,” Wiggins said of the dunks. “They were both on KAT. That’s my guy. He got me last year so I had to get him back.”
