The 49ers are still in a playoff spot after Sunday’s heartbreaking loss in Seattle, but just barely.
San Francisco squandered a chance to give themselves a little breathing room, and now find themselves with just a half-game lead over the Philadelphia Eagles, clinging to the seventh and final playoff spot.
At 6-6, the 49ers have the same record as the sixth seeded Washington Football team, but don’t hold the tiebreaker because Washington has a better record in the conference. The other Wild Card team is the Los Angles Rams who did give themselves breathing room in the fifth seed by extending their record to 8-4 with Sunday’s thrashing over Jacksonville.
If the standings were to remain the same, the 49ers would play the No. 2 seeded Packers in the wild-card round at Lambeau Field.
San Francisco’s remaining schedule is a mixed bag. They face three teams currently in playoff spots over their next five games, including next week’s matchup vs. Cincinnati, a Dec 23. tilt vs. Tennessee and the final game of the season vs. the Rams. All three games are on the road. The other two games are home contests vs. the lowly Texans (2-10) and Falcons (5-7).
