The most physically taxing portion of the 49ers’ schedule is here. A trip to Tennesee for a Thursday night game provides a rapid turnaround and what could be argued is a scheduled loss for San Francisco.
Kyle Shanahan provided injury updates from Sunday’s 31-13 win over the Falcons, as well as some long-term prognoses.
There were only three injuries from the game. Nick Bosa cleared concussion protocol yesterday, but will be re-evaluated today. There have been two previous incidences of players — Ambry Thomas and Marcell Harris — clearing protocol during and after the game, but coming back with a concussion the following day.
Talanoa Hufanga suffered a knee sprain, with Shanahan “holding out hope” he can play on Thursday. Jaquiski Tartt also suffered a sprained ankle, but is expected to play.
As for some of the long-term return prospects, the outlook is less encouraging.
Emmanuel Moseley, who is on injured reserve with a high ankle sprain, is not expected to return until the playoffs, or the final game of the season at Los Angeles at the earliest.
“I think it’s still going to be some time,” Shanahan said. “I think we’d be fortunate to get him by LA. Hopefully if he can’t do it then, we find a way to make sure we’re still playing after that game.”
Safety Tarvarius Moore, who sustained a torn Achilles but was mentioned as having a chance to return, is expected to remain out for the rest of the year.
In the more short-term, both Elijah Mitchell and Azeez Al-Shaair should be considered questionable or perhaps doubtful. Shanahan said that they will be evaluated up until kickoff, but that, “we’re holding out hope they’ll be ready to go.”
