Former Warriors guard Tim Hardaway has been named a finalist for the National Basketball Hall of Fame’s 2022 Class.
Hardaway, a five-time All-Star, won the 2000 Gold Medal at the Summer Olympics in Sydney. He played six of his 13 NBA seasons in Golden State, starting his career in 1989 as the 14th overall pick.
Other notable finalists include Manu Ginobili, Michael Cooper, George Karl and Bob Huggins.
Hardaway was the “T” in Golden State’s famous “Run TMC” teams that featured him, Mitch Richmond and Chris Mullin. The latter two stars are already enshrined in Springfield.
The 6-foot point guard averaged 17.7 points and 8.2 assists in his NBA career. He made five All-NBA Teams, including First Team All-NBA in 1997. He was the second-fastest player ever to record 5,000 points and 2,500 assists.
The Basketball Hall of Fame notably casts a wider net than other major professional sports Halls. It accounts for international and collegiate milestones, cultural and league pioneers, and influential women. Voting committees are mostly anonymous.
On top of his NBA accomplishments, Hardaway won the 1989 Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year award while at the University of Texas-El Paso. He played four seasons of college ball — common for his era.
The 2022 Hall of Fame Class will be revealed in early April at the NCAA Final Four in New Orleans. The ensuing enshrinement ceremony is scheduled for Sept. 9-10 in Springfield.
