Going down 2-1 in the NBA Finals is bad enough, but doing so when Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson both had excellent shooting games is a real cause for concern.
“The really scary part for the Warriors is this: Klay and Steph shot the ball really well and they scored,” Tom Tolbert said on KNBR Thursday. “Those are the type of games where you usually win those type of games when those two guys do what they did. Well, they do what they did and they still didn’t win. So that’s a little scary.”
Curry, who has been fantastic throughout the Finals, went 12-of-22 and 6-of-11 from 3 for 31 points. Thompson, who struggled in Games 1 and 2, went 7-of-17 and 5-of-13 from 3 for 25 points. Still the Warriors lost 116-110.
“If you need that and you still can’t win, then you start thinking ‘okay.’ Who is to say both guys shoot that well in Game 4, and they both come out and they are hitting 3s and scoring that efficiently? Just think what that game could have been like if one of those two guys didn’t shoot that well. It would have been a runaway. Either both those guys gotta do it again, and someone is going to go along for the ride, or it’ll be trouble.”
In order to win, the Warriors might just have to hope the Celtics play worse in Game 4, something that might not actually be that unlikely.
“Again, I will caution people to think they are going to see the same Celtic team that they saw in Game 3. I’ve watched every Celtic game in the playoffs this year, the only time they looked really good consistently was against the Nets. And the Nets are the Nets. They were funky all year long. Other than that, Milwaukee and Miami was back-and-forth, so I think Game 4 is going to be really interesting.”
