The Giants were the only organization Steven Duggar had known. Since the Giants selected him in the sixth round of the 2015 MLB Draft, he’s been a Giant.
But this past week, San Francisco traded the speedy outfielder to the Texas Rangers for corner outfielder Willie Calhoun. The move came as SF has a plethora of left-handed hitting outfielders, and was running out of roster space for more.
On Instagram, Duggar thanked the city of San Francisco, Giants fans and his teammates for his time in black and orange.
“San Francisco, thank you,” Duggar wrote. “Thank you for the memories made over the years. For the moments and experiences I could’ve only dreamed of as a kid. For the friends and mentors I’ve met along the way. To the front office, the staff, the fans and my teammates, I couldn’t have been more lucky to have been a part of something so special here in this city. I will miss you all #415 Can’t wait to get started down in Texas and be a part of the Rangers organization! #StraightUpTX.”
In the four seasons since making his MLB debut with the Giants, Duggar hit .242 with 14 home runs. The Giants missed his defense in the outfield on Sunday, when outfielders misplayed balls or made mental mistakes in a 10-3 loss to the Reds.
Calhoun, meanwhile, recorded his first hit and first RBI for the Sacramento River Cats on Sunday. Initially, the River Cats hadn’t yet updated his picture, so a photo of Steven Duggar flashed next to his name on the big screen.
