It’s going to be a question that arises every time a starting quarterback gets hurt this season.
With Jimmy Garoppolo sitting behind Trey Lance and the Cowboys without Dak Prescott for six to eight weeks, could a Garoppolo-Cowboys trade be on the horizon?
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, it doesn’t seem likely.
“I’m really not,” Rapoport said on Murph & Mac when asked if he’s expecting a trade. “Now this is the type of situation the 49ers could benefit from, although the fact that Trey Lance kind of looked up and down I do wonder if that gives them some pause.
“I know it’s Trey’s team and they really have moved on. Unless you’re going to get a really good return like a third rounder or something legitimate, I’m not sure it makes sense for the 49ers.”
Rapoport also doesn’t think the Cowboys will have a ton of interest, mostly because they have convinced themselves that second-year QB Cooper Rush will be able to get it done.
“If Dak is out two months and Cooper Rush can’t do it maybe they trade for Garoppolo,” Rapoport continued. “But I don’t know if it makes sense to trade a premium draft pick for what could be like a month of games.”
That last comment is interesting because the latest reports are that Prescott is expected to miss between six and eight weeks with the broken thumb. Either Rapoport doesn’t believe that is true, or he wasn’t aware of the actual timetable.
