The 49ers season opener in Seattle against the Seahawks on September 7 is still more than six weeks away. If you watched the 49ers second official practice of training camp on Thursday morning, however, you might think that first contest is just days away. It felt like football season in Santa Clara, as the Niners held a high octane session under an uncharacteristically overcast summer south bay sky. There was a considerable bounce in the collective step of a group that is eager to put 2024 behind them.
KNBR had you covered from (literally) the moment the sun rose over Levi’s Stadium Thursday morning. Murph & Markus were live from inside the stadium, hosting the first true Niners centric show of 2025. The guest list was loaded, featuring Brock Purdy, Nick Bosa, and George Kittle in rapid succession before 7:30. Matt Maiocco, who of course warrants his own personal sentence, followed the star-studded trio with his own camp analysis.
Purdy, looking like he lived in the weight room during his first off-season as a rich man, was eager to talk ball with the morning show. He discussed everything from the wide receiver room, to the team’s attitude, to how the franchise is turning over a new leaf with him at the helm.
Even if Steve Young implores the young quarterback to use his legs more, Purdy won’t concede a strategy to get out of the pocket unless it’s warranted. He sees himself as a point guard.

Nick Bosa joined the morning show with a typical nonchalant vibe, which always starkly contrasts his explosive play on the field. He was firm in his belief in this year’s squad when asked what he thinks the ceiling of the team might be.

If KNBR listeners weren’t yet awake when George Kittle joined Murph & Markus, his infectious energy woke them up within seconds. Kittle talked just about everything in his 15 minutes on the show, everything except football. He does enough of that. Perhaps the most viral moment of the offseason came at Kittle’s annual “Tight End University” celebration, where he, Travis Kelce, and a host of other prominent players to have played the position gather to train and celebrate their position.
Wherever Kelce is, Taylor Swift usually is as well. The power couple descended upon Nashville for TEU, and Kittle played beneficiary. He was seen with Kelce and Swift, singing along to some of her greatest and oldest hits on a balcony. It was a moment that millions of her dedicated fans would kill for. The moment wasn’t lost on Kittle.

Practice notes:
Brock Purdy was excellent during Thursday’s 11-on-11 period, which isn’t allowed to be filmed by the media. Unofficially, he completed 13 of 14 passes, he didn’t throw an interception. Purdy also pushed the ball down the field effectively, making a handful of plays to a variety of receivers over the top.
Rookie defensive end Mykel Williams looked quick and agile in the defensive line drills. When you couple those skills with his hulking frame, it spells constant havoc in opposing backfields.
Don’t fret, fans. CMC and Juice weren’t looking like they skipped any days in the weight room during the offseason.
Undrafted rookie Isaiah Neyor out of Texas has been a bright spot at receiver. In a position group with perhaps the most uncertainty on the roster, he could easily make the team and make an immediate impact. Neyor made the play of the day over the middle, leaping over a pair of defenders downfield and hauling in a dime from Purdy. It could be a connection Niners fans become accustomed to seeing if things go well for Neyor.
