Happy first victory Monday of 2025, 49ers fans. These days are what football fans dream of. Basking in the glow of a win after taking in the season’s first full weekend of football. Niners fans can’t enjoy nice things for long, however, as some ominous but not tragic injury news broke Monday afternoon.
The Kittle news is more or less expected, although fans were still likely holding out hope that the timeline would be closer to 1-2 weeks than 3-5. Purdy’s was a complete surprise. Shanahan broke that news in a conference call with reporters. An ailing shoulder and toe, the latter which is reportedly more bothersome, may keep him out of the 49ers’ week two contest in New Orleans.
Perhaps the biggest storyline from Sunday’s game outside of the dramatic final two minutes was 49ers’ kicker Jake Moody, who has graduated from a polarizing figure into a uniting one. Niners fans everywhere are fed up with his misses, and rightfully so. He was 1/3 on field goals Sunday, missing a short chip shot in the first half, before having another attempt blocked. Will he be the Niners’ kicker in New Orleans?
Moody should feel lucky that his head coach still isn’t sure. At least publicly. If KNBR morning host Brian Murphy were in charge of roster moves, Moody’s bags would have been packed before the show concluded at 10am this morning.
Here’s what Shanahan and Nick Bosa had to say about it at the podium following Sunday’s win.
With Kittle out a handful of weeks, and Jauan Jennings also set to potentially miss a week, the Niners finally put a bow on the signing of old friend Kendrick Bourne on Monday ,morning. He knows the system, he’s a veteran who’s established the ability to be a reliable third option.
If you missed any of KNBR’s coverage of Sunday’s dramatic season opening win in Seattle, we’ve got you covered with a short recap here. The boys were hyped as they left the field for the locker room at Levi’s north.
The Los Gatos leap? Call it what you want. The Niners couldn’t believe the play Jake Tonges made in the end zone to give the team it’s first win. It was his first career score and only his third career catch.
The injury news is a downer, but it’s about what Niners fans have been trained to expect over the last year and change. All in all, it could have been far worse. To leave you on a good note, here’s the radio calls of the Tonges touchdown and the Bosa strip sack as head from Guy Haberman and Tim Ryan on KNBR.
