Niners Bulletin: 49ers make splash, again negotiating with Trent Williams

Nearly two hours into the annual frenzied beginning of NFL free agency, Niners fans were beginning to get restless. Fans wondered aloud on social media, “where’s John Lynch?” or “Lynch is asleep at the wheel!” It wouldn’t take long to satisfy that unsatiated fringe. Adam Schefter announced that future Hall of Fame Wide Receiver Mike Evans was set to sign a three-year deal with the 49ers, worth $60 million total. 

Evans, who turns 33 in August, is one of the most accomplished wide receivers of the 21st century. His playmaking ability, physicality, and excellent hands have made his a league stalwart since his rookie season in 2014. He’s racked up over 13,000 yards as a pro with incredible consistency, Evans put up over 1000 yards in each of his first 13 (!!!) seasons. He will immediately become the top target for Brock Purdy in 2026. 

Although a three year deal seems risky for a wide receiver going into his mid thirties, the price point screams team bargain for a player of his caliber. It was rumored at the NFL Combine that the market for Evans was closer to an annual figure of 30 million than what he settled on with SF at 20. 

San Francisco ached badly for a true No. 1 wide receiver in 2025. Ricky Pearsall dealt with nagging injuries throughout the campaign, and Brandon Aiyuk, well, no one really knows what his deal is. Evans will provide stability at a position that has made Kyle Shanahan sweat way more than it should. Check out KNBR’s coverage of the Mike Evans trade below.
