Nick Schmaltz scored a power-play goal at 13:12 of the third period to lift the visiting Utah Mammoth to a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday.
Dylan Guenther and Andrew Peeke also scored for Utah, which tallied its league-leading 19th and 20th power-play goals of the season.
Clayton Keller added three assists, Mikhail Sergachev contributed two helpers and Sebastian Cossa made 27 saves for the Mammoth.
Jack Roslovic scored twice and Auston Matthews added two assists for the Maple Leafs.
Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 33 shots for Toronto, which dropped the opener of a six-game homestand against opponents with winning records.
Schmaltz slammed home the game-winner on a rebound after Bobrovsky sprawled to stop Keller’s shot from close range.
Guenther opened the scoring at 19:47 of the first period. Keller sent a pass from the left wing to Sergachev at the point. Sergachev fed Guenther, who fired a shot through three Toronto defenders and past Bobrovsky’s glove.
Utah killed off two Toronto power plays in the first period.
After Troy Stecher broke his stick on the rush, Roslovic fired a wrist shot off a pass from Matthews into the top corner beyond Cossa’s reach, tying the game at 1 at 10:20 of the second period.
Utah took a 2-1 lead on Peeke’s goal about 3 1/2 minutes later. Barrett Hayton’s skate clipped Bobrovsky’s skate, spinning the Toronto goaltender away from the net before Peeke’s shot sailed into the open goal.
Bobrovsky protested, but after a discussion, officials allowed the goal to stand. Toronto did not challenge the call.
Later in the period, an Anders Lee goal was waved off after Hayton again made contact with Bobrovsky, this time inside the crease.
Matthews shoveled a backhand pass to Roslovic, who went forehand to backhand to beat Cossa and tie the game at 2 at 9:05 of the third.
Schmaltz’s goal gave Utah a 3-2 lead. Later, with the extra attacker on, Roslovic’s shot hit the post in the closing seconds.
