The Seahawks either trolled Richard Sherman or paid homage to him by recreating the play that helped define his career — and strengthen this rivalry.
Sherman returned to Seattle’s CenturyLink Field for the first time as an opponent Sunday. After the Seahawks scored the game’s opening touchdown — a four-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to Jaron Brown in the first quarter — the Seahawks re-enacted Sherman’s tip of Colin Kaepernick’s pass in the 2013 NFC Championship game. Malcolm Smith caught Sherman’s pass for the interception to seal Seattle’s win and subsequent Super Bowl birth.
Both Smith and Sherman, now 49ers, were on the field during Seattle’s celebration, though neither were directly involved with the play.
Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin, a longtime college and professional teammate of Sherman’s, played the role of Sherman in the video. Tyler Lockett played former 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree’s role, and Brown served as Kaepernick. David Moore played the role of Smith, who intercepted the ball.
