49ers kicker Robbie Gould is a 2018 Walter Payton Man of the Year award nominee, and the above video is a good example why.
Gould gifted Chase Ewoldt, a nine-year old brain cancer survivor who wasn’t supposed to live past his third birthday, two tickets to the Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta. Gould plans on attending with Chase and his father. Flights and two nights in a hotel will be completely covered by the 49ers, according to KTVU.
Gould met Chase at a charity golf tournament a few years ago. Chase reached out to Gould because they were both bald, and the two struck up a friendship.
Chase was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer in 2012 and given about six months to live. After a large, successful brain surgery in Aug 2012, and aggressive chemotherapy beginning later that month, MRIs showed the tumor was cleared from Chase’s brain and spine. There were more ups and down, but Chase persevered.
He was officially declared a cancer survivor on Jan 25, 2017.
Gould is currently third on the Man of the Year leaderboard with over 70K mentions.
