SAN FRANCISCO – In the bottom of the seventh inning of Monday night’s loss to the San Diego Padres, Giants outfielder Gerardo Parra was hit by a pitch near the jaw. He walked off the field under his own power, while covering his face with a towel.

Derek Holland, who will start tomorrow night’s game against the Padres, pinch ran for Parra before Brandon Belt flew out.
It was a concerning moment for the Giants, and the game ended with a 6-5 loss that featured a blown five-run lead to add insult to literal injury. Shortly after the game, Giants manager Bruce Bochy provided an update on Parra’s condition and clarified that nothing was serious.
According to Bochy, Parra sustained just a cut to his lip, saying that the fastball which hit him ricocheted off his shoulder and into his lip. Bochy said Parra will be available for tomorrow’s game.
“He’s fine,” Bochy said. “He’s got a cut lip, but he’s fine.”
