A rough debut month for Jaylin Davis took a painful turn Thursday.
The Giants right fielder was drilled by a 97-mph fastball from Pittsburgh’s Yacksel Rios in the sixth inning and looked to be in a good amount of pain. It appeared to get him in the left hand/wrist area, which Giants trainer Dave Groeschner examined for a few minutes before both of them walked off the field.
The Giants did not have an immediate update on Davis’ status.
Davis, the 25-year-old Triple-A phenom acquired in the Sam Dyson trade, debuted in the majors Sept. 4 and has gone 3-for-21 in his first week.
Joey Rickard took first base in his place and, once the Giants were retired, remained in the outfield, though he moved to left while Mike Yastrzemski shifted to right.
