The last time Kevin Durant played in an NBA basketball game, it was May 8. It’s taken 33 days, but Durant is apparently ready to step back on the court after dealing with a calf injury that he suffered against the Houston Rockets, which was more severe than initially suspected to be or led on to be.
Durant will start against the Toronto Raptors in Game 5 of the NBA Finals with the Warriors trailing 3-1 in the series. It is the first time the Warriors have trailed 3-1 in a series since 2016, when the team came back to win against Durant and Russell Westbrook’s Oklahoma City Thunder before suffering the same 3-1 reversal by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals.
According to head coach Steve Kerr, Durant likely won’t be seeing long stretches of play. According to Kerr, it will be within the flow of the game.
“We’ll start him and play him in short bursts and see how he responds physically,” Kerr said. “As the game goes, we’ll try to figure it out from there.”
