Giants pitchers had been 0-for-29 entering the at-bat, but Logan Webb reminded San Francisco fans that the NL making pitchers bat can be a hell of a lot of fun.
Webb’s first major league RBI and extra-base hit cranked up the excitement meter at a rainy and puddle-y Oracle Park on Sunday afternoon, livening up a game that started well for the Giants.
With two on in the second inning against Miami’s Paul Campbell, Webb blasted a triple into Triples Alley with a 109-mph exit velocity (!) that drove in two and gave the Giants a 3-0 lead that they would take into the third inning.
Webb, a high school quarterback and a good athlete, just kept running and didn’t even need to slide to get his first hit in three plate appearances this year.
Adding some fun to the proceedings was the last time a Giants pitcher tripled, against these same Marlins: Tim Lincecum on June 21, 2013.
