Former 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman was arrested Wednesday morning under investigation for domestic violence residential burglary, according to police. Information has since rolled in which has brought more clarity to the situation.
According to multiple reports, the series of events that we know of which led to Sherman’s arrest, and reported investigations for domestic violence residential burglary, hit-and-run and DUI (the latter two of which were reported by The Athletic’s Matt Barrows), were as follows.
Around 1 a.m., according to The Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta and other reports, Sherman’s vehicle struck a concrete barrier, but was gone when police arrived and later parked, where it was discovered to be registered to Sherman. After running the plate, officers identified a Redmond, Washington address.
According a statement by the Redmond Police statement, they were called to the residence at 1:49 a.m. for a reported break-in. They allege that Sherman fought with police, “resulting in a Redmond K9 team being deployed to assist in gaining control.”
Sherman’s wife, Ashley Moss, told Condotta the following:
“At this time we’re going to make no statements, except he didn’t harm anybody,” Moss said. “My kids were not harmed in the incident. He’s a good person and this is not his character. We’re doing all right, just trying to get him out. I want people to know no one was injured.”
That’s a significant revelation given the initial title of the investigation being levied against Sherman, and something which tracks with the following from NBC Sports’ Matt Maiocco, who was told by a Redmond police spokesperson that “nobody in the house was injured in any way,” and that the investigation for what was reported as “burglary domestic violence” was related to the relationship between him and the parties involved.
Redmond Police spokesman: “Nobody in the house was injured in any way. I’m not even sure he made it into the house.”
The alleged offense is labeled as “domestic violence” because of the relationship between the parties involved.

According to Maiocco, the results of blood testing on Sherman for suspected DUI will not be known for many months.
Washington State Patrol says it had probable cause to obtain warrant for blood, which needs to be tested for the suspicion of DUI. The results will not be known for “many months,” according to public-information officer. “We got a backlog on blood testing in our labs right now.”

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Sherman has not been formally charged and will not be until Thursday afternoon; it appears he will have to spend the night in King County Correctional Facility until he can appear in court.
Richard Sherman has not been formally charged. He cannot be until he appears in King County District Court, which will not be until Thursday afternoon. Until then, Sherman will remain in the King County Correctional Facility in Seattle.
