OAKLAND – Now that the Western Conference No. 1 seed is all but locked up with five games remaining, Warriors coach Steve Kerr has decided he will rest some of his players.
That’ll start Wednesday night against the Suns. Andre Iguodala and Draymond Green will receive the night off. The Warriors will fly directly to Phoenix after Tuesday’s home matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Hearing Iguodala’s name on the DNP list was nothing out of the ordinary, but Green’s name was a surprise. Kerr has already spoken with Green and the fiery competitor is okay with the decision. Kerr consulted with the training staff and this rest is “planned.”
“The training staff, I met with them a few days ago, they told me Draymond could really use a night off,” Kerr said. “The numbers show it. I talked to Draymond, he admits it too, ‘yeah, that would probably be good.’ So that’s what we’re going to do.
Kerr clarified by “the numbers” he meant fatigue data the training staff has access too. Green started all 81 games a year ago and played
“It’s pretty obvious Draymond is a little worn down right now,” Kerr said. “A night off makes sense.”
Glad Kerr didn’t have to battle with Draymond on this one. Rest should honestly be considered for Steph Curry and Klay Thompson at some point over these final five games, too.
