OAKLAND – Monday night the Golden State Warriors won the NBA finals in Game 5 at home and a champagne soaked David West gave an impassioned speech in the locker room about why they won.
“Yea Andre was unbelievable,” said West. “You know he was in the gym at 8 o’clock this morning. We had optional shoot around. Everybody was in the gym this morning…everybody was there, everybody was working.”
West and the rest of the team sprayed champagne on each other in celebration as they became the first Bay Area team since 1974 to win a championship title at home.
“That’s what we do, that’s why we won it.” West continued. “Because even when coach said, ‘get what you need, it’s on you to make the decision’ everybody is still working.”
The Cleveland Cavaliers kept it close most of the game but the Warriors overcame to take the trophy at home.
“That’s what this group is about, that’s why we got to the top,” West explained. “Talent only takes you so far but details and x’s and o’s and committing to one another every single day, we stayed out the streets, we stayed in the gym and won, that’s all it’s about, straight up.”
The Warriors parade is Thursday at 10am. It starts at Broadway and 11th st and ends at the Convention Center.
