Michael Morse hit a home run in batting practice that nearly hit the coke bottle in left field.
That info comes from KNBR’s Giants broadcaster Jon Miller, who called into the Murph and Mac show Thursday to chat about San Francisco’s epic 4-3 comeback win Wednesday over the Dodgers.
To Miller, Christian Arroyo and Michael Morse have arrived at the perfect time, and you can feel the energy. Arroyo clubbed his first career homer in the seventh, and Morse tied the game up with a solo shot in the eighth — a homer that brought the house down at AT&T Park.
“The team was not playing well, they weren’t scoring runs and it went from bad to worse in Denver,” Miller said. “That was a quiet clubhouse. And guys were quietly saying they hadn’t been around a clubhouse where everyone was just so down all at the same time. They were kind of mourning the loss of Madison Bumgarner, because they all love him. Not that he’s just great but he’s a total team guy. So that was something to really overcome.
“Now they lose all three games and the Dodgers come to town. Let’s face it: there’s so much time left in the season, but you don’t want to get buried early on either. … Morse mentioned it last night, and I think we saw that it’s true. The crowd uplifted him. Plus, what he had seen Arroyo do. That uplifted him. He was out there on sheer adrenaline alone, because he was trying to do exactly what he did. When does that happen? When guys go out there and launch a home run and actually do it in a tight spot late in the game? Truly, when he came up and I saw that ball off his bat in October 2014 going past the foul pole, deep down the line, a majestic shot. I tell the story, when I look at the left field foul pole, that’s what I see in my minds eye. That’s been in my head ever since.”
