Giants ace Madison Bumgarner will miss his scheduled start Thursday night against the Cardinals due to flu-like symptoms the team has announced. Matt Cain will start in his place.

This will be Cain’s first start since August 16, when lasted four innings against the Marlins, allowing five runs — two earned — while striking out seven. It’ll be his first start at AT&T Park since July 24 when he gave up six runs — again just two earned — also in four innings. As both a starter and reliever, Cain has a 5.75 ERA in 25 appearances in 2017.
