SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco Giants have called up outfielder Mac Williamson and infielder Orlando Calixte from Triple-A Sacramento as part of the team’s September roster expansion. On Friday the Giants’ roster jumped from 25 spots to 40 possible spots, and Williamson and Calixte will become players 30 and 31 on the team’s active roster.

Williamson has struggled to find himself at the plate in 2017 after starting the season sidelined with a quad injury. The outfielder has played 12 games in the majors this season. He totaled five hits in 32 at bats, good for a .152 batting average.

The Wake Forest product has had similar trouble in Sacramento this year. In 94 games Williamson has 14 home runs, 50 RBI and was only batting .244 with 100 strikeouts in Triple-A.

Calixte has been sent up and down for most of the summer. This will be his fourth stint in the majors this year, good for 15 games and 38 plate appearances.

Calixte can play all over the field, spending time at third base, shortstop, and left field this year. He had a hot start to his major league career, collecting two hits and two RBI on major league debut. In the following 14 games Calixte’s season, the utility man only totaled four more hits and three more RBI.

The September roster expansion gives the two another chance to make an impression for Bochy and staff, who are most likely treating the rest of the season as a way to see what they have with the players who are currently on the roster. Almost 40 games behind the Dodgers for first in the NL West at the start of September, there’s not much else you can do.
