Durant calls his tweets trashing Thunder and former coach ‘childish, idiotic’

Kevin Durant created quite a firestorm on Monday, when he sent out two tweets criticizing the Thunder organization, his former coach Billy Donovan and his former teammates for not being good enough. Bizarrely, the now-deleted tweets were written in the third-person, leading some to speculate that Durant believed he was tweeting from a separate Twitter account used to defend himself against trolls.

Durant commented in the incident for the first time Tuesday while being interviewed at Tech Crunch in San Francisco. Durant said that he regretted the tweets calling them both ‘childish’ and ‘idiotic.’ He also admitted that he has a separate Instagram account for friends and family, but did not directly address the accusation that he meant to send the Tweets in question from a burner account.

Here’s the video and transcript of Durant’s comments per the excellent Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

Durant also had this to say to Sam Amick of USA Today:

“That was just me being a total (expletive) idiot. I own up to it. I want to move on from it. It probably hit me probably harder than what everybody (thought). Everybody else was telling me to relax, to snap out of it, but I was really, really upset with myself more than anything. It’s not the fact that people were talking about me, because I deserve that, but I’m just more upset with myself that I let myself go that far, you know what I was saying? It was a joke to me at first. I was doing it all summer, and it went too deep. I went too hard… I haven’t slept in two days, two nights. I haven’t ate. It’s crazy, because I feel so (expletive) pissed at myself and I’m mad that I brought someone into it.”
