We went to Gary Radnich and asked him to talk about the prospect of the San Francisco Giants losing 100 games this year and what that would mean historically.
Gary wasn’t having it.
“If they lose 100, they lose 100. If they lose 99, they’re still bad. If they lose 104, they’re still bad,” Gary told us. Fair point, Mr. Radnich…fair point.
Gary went on to detail how he would approach the Giants offseason on the tail of one of the most disappointing seasons in recent memory, and is ready to give most of the team a mulligan for 2017.
“I think Bochy deserves another year back. They have another think like they had this year, then go ahead and start talking about, ‘Well what are we going to do? Do we have to go younger.’” Gary feels the same way about the rest of the coaching staff, and gave Righetti and Hensley Meulens the same mulligan.
Some of the more seasoned Giants players were not so lucky.
“Span can’t play centerfield, that we know. The infield, I still think they’re going to come back with Belt, they’re going to come back with Panik, they’re going to come back with Crawford. You gotta fill third base. I think Pablo, it’s adios. He’s hit a couple home runs, but nope. You gotta get somebody fresh, somebody new.
“They’re going to build around that pitching staff. I guess Cueto’s coming back. Bumgarner. Samardzija. You got a couple of holes there they gotta fill.”
It’s safe to assume there will be some major changes to the San Francisco Giants roster come 2018. But if Gary was in charge, there might not be as many as you’d think.
